USAADM, a global leader in innovative solutions from nature, has announced the appointment of Dr. Nuria Miquel PhD, as senior vice president and chief science officer, effective August 1.

Nuria will replace Todd Werpy, Ph.D., who is retiring after leading the company’s R&D and innovation efforts for 16 years.

“Innovation is a foundation of ADM’s culture and strategy, and I am proud to ask Nuria to lead our efforts as we expand the horizons of food, fuel, feed, and industrial and consumer products made from nature,” said ADM Chief Executive Officer Juan Luciano.

Nuria Miquel, who joined ADM three years ago as leader of science and technology for the company’s Nutrition segment, started her career as a research scientist before progressing to leadership roles at Novozymes, Tate & Lyle, Chr. Hansen and Hempel.

Luciano commends her as the best fit for the position through her vast experience in leadership and cutting-edge science.

“Throughout her distinguished career, Nuria has demonstrated how to bring together inspiring leadership and cutting-edge science to build high-performing R&D teams that transform new ideas into commercial products to drive growth.”

In addition to her experience, Miquel received a bachelor’s degree in animal science at the Universitat Politecnica de Catalunya, as well as a master’s degree in animal science and a doctorate in veterinary sciences, nutrition, and immunology, both from the University of Copenhagen.

The appointment comes after ADM recently opened a new customer creation and innovation center in Manchester, England, to enhance its capacity to improve culinary experiences.

According to the company, the 8,611-square-foot facility will serve as a hub in the UK for food innovation and will feature a kitchen, a chef’s presentation theater, and a flavor development lab to allow ADM to provide even more value to its customers in the UK.

The opening of our new customer creation and innovation center provides a unique synergistic space to further our commitment to push the boundaries of food and beverage formulation while also delivering authentic culinary experiences,” said Chris Poole, managing director of ADM.

This center could also be a timely and strategic investment for ADM in response to a growing and dynamic market in the European country.
