UK – The Baking Industry Awards 2024 has unveiled its finalists for the coveted Bakery Manufacturer of the Year category, highlighting remarkable businesses dedicated to quality and innovation in the bakery sector.
Sponsored by Rademaker, this award recognizes manufacturers that excel in producing high-quality products while demonstrating ambition and growth.
The finalists include a diverse array of companies specializing in various baked goods, from scones to Italian-style breads and Cornish pasties. Each contender has been evaluated on their ability to deliver exceptional products on a large scale, showcasing their commitment to excellence.
One notable finalist is Higgidy, renowned for its innovative quiches. The company has gained attention for its Garlic-Roasted Broccoli & Vintage Cheddar Quiche, which features a blend of vintage Somerset Cheddar, tangy Red Leicester, and nutty Emmental, all encased in spelt shortcrust pastry.
Higgidy’s team emphasized their focus on enhancing the broccoli’s flavor by tossing it with garlic, oil, and salt before baking.
“The slight char of the vegetables infuses a smoky flavor into the dish,” the team stated, highlighting their commitment to quality and flavor.
M’s Bakery, based in Bournemouth, is another finalist known for its unique Kimchi & Smoked Cheese Bear Claw.
Drawing inspiration from a cheese and sauerkraut pastry enjoyed in Budapest, the bakery has created a savory offering that combines Eastern and Western culinary traditions.
The judges praised the execution of the recipe, noting that the texture of the kimchi was “amazing” and the pastry quality showcased exceptional baking skills.
“We aim to balance flavors while offering a product that is easy to enjoy on the go,” said a representative from M’s Bakery.
Lovingly Artisan, a two-time winner of the Bakers’ Dozen list of best artisan bakeries in the UK, has introduced Northern Bliss-cuits, a guilt-free savory biscuit made from organic ingredients.
The judges described these biscuits as “versatile” and “moreish,” appreciating the thoughtfulness behind their production.
“We wanted to create something that caters to the growing demand for healthy snacks,” the team explained.
Longboys, an artisanal doughnut brand from London, has made waves with its Passion Fruit Pavlova Longboy, a delightful fusion of classic Pavlova and brioche-style doughnut.
The judges commended the product for its beautiful presentation and delicious flavors, stating that every element was “beautiful and delicious.”
Longboys emphasized their aim to captivate customers’ taste buds with creative combinations.
Délifrance UK, representing M&S, has also secured a finalist position with its Roasted Hazelnut Chocolatine.
This pastry, part of a premium range, has been recognized for its quality and taste. The judges noted the product’s ability to stand out in a competitive market, praising its “excellent flavor” and appealing texture.
