USA- North Carolina’s Bartlett, a Savage Company multinational, celebrated the completion of a US$28 million expansion of its grain milling facility in Wilson’s Mills on May 3rd, 2023, after having worked on it for almost two years.

This US$28 million investment involved adding a third milling unit and significantly increasing storage capacity for wheat, flour, and mill feed.

Our Wilson’s Mills facility now has three milling units with a combined daily capacity of 20,000 CWTs and storage capacity for 1.1M bushels of wheat; we’ve also added 8 family-wage jobs as a result of this expansion,” said Trey Sebus, Bartlett Vice President for Milling.

Bartlett is the largest flour miller in North Carolina, and this current expansion had its construction work begin in July 2021 and finalized in April 2023.

We’re excited to celebrate the completion of this multi-year project to expand our Wilson’s Mills facility to better serve our Customers and Partners,” said Bob Knief, President of Bartlett.

The Wilson’s Mills grain mill was built in 2000 and acquired by Bartlett in 2007. In 2012, the facility was expanded to add a larger 5,000-CWT milling unit.

As part of the 2021-2023 expansion, another 5,000-CWT milling unit was added and storage capacity was increased by about 80 percent for wheat, 50 percent for flour, and 50 percent for mill feed.

We continue to invest in growing and improving our network of grain and milling assets across North America, including this facility expansion in North Carolina,” Knief added.

In its press release, Bartlett said that the collective efforts of Team Members, Customers, project contractors, and community leaders made the expansion possible.

We appreciate the Johnston County Board of Commissioners, Johnston County Economic Development Office, and leaders at the Town of Wilson’s Mills for their support through this process, and express our sincere thanks to the many contractors who diligently worked to complete this expansion project safely and successfully,” the press release read.

Bartlett has been a part of the Savage family of companies since 2018, and its diverse agribusiness focuses on the acquisition, storage, transportation, processing, and merchandising of grain.

The company is a leading U.S. grain exporter to Mexico, supplying all classes of wheat, feed grains, food-grade corn, and soybeans to millers and processors, and produces a full line of commercial patent flours and animal feeds.
