GERMANY — Crespel & Deiters Group, a prominent wheat processor in Europe, has commissioned the construction of a new €18.5 million (US$20.5 million) silo building at its headquarters in Ibbenbüren.

This investment marks the largest in the company’s history and is set to become operational in early 2026.

The project began earlier this year, with the removal of four smaller silos to make way for the new facility.

The building’s exterior facade was completed in just two weeks using slip-form construction, a testament to the innovative techniques employed.

The new facility will house 18 silo cells with a storage capacity of approximately 2,000 tonnes, significantly enhancing the site’s storage and handling capabilities.

This development is part of Crespel & Deiters’ broader expansion strategy at the Ibbenbüren site. The site has seen continuous investment, including the establishment of a flour storage and separation plant in 2018, followed by the commissioning of an energy-efficient A-starch dryer in 2021.

These initiatives align with the company’s aim to streamline its production process, ensuring greater efficiency and reliability for its global customer base.

Steffen von Glahn, Chief Operations Officer, emphasized the importance of this investment for both the company and the local economy.

“The functionality and development of our sites form the basis of our global operations. The Ibbenbüren location is the foundation of our activities, as this is where the primary processing and refining processes take place,” said von Glahn.

Investing in infrastructure is a clear commitment to our headquarters in increasingly uncertain circumstances. At the same time, we are strengthening partnerships with valued local contractors and, thus, our supply chain network,” he added.

This move is also part of the company’s ongoing efforts to solidify its position as a leader in the wheat processing industry.

Recent expansions, such as developing its extrudate production facilities in the Netherlands, highlight Crespel & Deiters’ commitment to innovation and meeting growing international demand, particularly in the plant-based food segment.
