NETHERLANDS – dsm-firmenich, a health, nutrition, and beauty pioneer, has announced a strategic partnership with BESTMIX Software, a leader in feed and pet food production solutions.

This collaboration aims to enhance sustainability in the food value chain by integrating feed formulation and life-cycle assessment (LCA) software to better measure and manage animal feed’s environmental footprint.

Data from the United Nations shows that food production is responsible for approximately one-third of global greenhouse gas emissions.

Due to sustainability commitments, regulatory requirements, and consumer preferences, companies across the feed and food value chain are increasingly required to measure, report, and reduce their environmental impacts. This necessitates the use of substantial data.

The partnership will integrate BESTMIX Software’s feed formulation capabilities with dsm-firmenich’s Sustell LCA platform.

This combined solution enables feed producers to easily generate and share their feed footprints, leveraging existing data from the BESTMIX software suite.

The integration will help feed producers, who are pivotal in sustainable animal protein production, to report the environmental impact of their feed with a single click.

Additionally, it will aid farmers in accurately quantifying the ecological impacts of products such as eggs, meat, milk, and farmed seafood.

This is an important step for full value chain transparency,” said David Nickell, Vice President of Sustainability & Business Solutions at dsm-firmenich, Animal Nutrition & Health.

By connecting Sustell with a well-known software player such as BESTMIX, we further realize our ambition to connect the entire farm-to-fork ecosystem. Reliable, easy-to-use LCA footprinting is key to enabling cooperation throughout the value chain to meet the challenge and seize the opportunities related to sustainability.

Gerard Marneth, CEO at BESTMIX Software, echoed these sentiments, expressing delight over the partnership with dsm-firmenich, using Sustell to offer our customers a cutting-edge solution for measuring and managing the environmental impact of their feed production.

This collaboration facilitates greater transparency and accuracy in reporting emissions across the entire food industry, including feed producers, farmers, processors, food companies, and retailers.

Accurate measurement and footprint improvement through system connectivity unlock multiple value opportunities, such as sustainable finance, eco-labeling, voluntary carbon trading, and identification of best farming practices across all species industries.
