USA—General Mills Foodservice unveiled its latest product, Pillsbury Croissant Buns, explicitly designed for food service operations that want to elevate their sandwich menus.
According to Datassential, this introduction comes as nearly 52 per cent of operators report increased sandwich sales over the past year.
The trend highlights a growing demand for premium sandwich options, with about 60 per cent of operators emphasising the importance of ready-to-serve ingredients in their selections.
Pillsbury Croissant Buns are pre-baked and pre-sliced, significantly reducing back-of-house preparation time.
These thaw-and-serve buns are crafted in a versatile round shape, allowing food service providers to quickly portion servings for any size operation, whether serving one or a thousand customers.
Chef Kevin Relf, a Chefs of the Mills team member, noted, “We know operators are looking for ways to up their sandwich game. The Pillsbury Croissant Buns come ready-to-serve and provide a low-labor foundation to build from and customize for a range of elevated sandwich opportunities.”
The buns boast a sweet dairy flavour complemented by buttery notes and a flaky, tender texture. This combination enhances the taste profile and aligns with current market trends favouring high-quality ingredients.
Introducing these croissant buns is part of Pillsbury’s broader strategy to offer culinary professionals versatile options that require minimal labour while maintaining quality.
To assist operators in maximizing the potential of these new buns, General Mills Foodservice has made available a free recipe collection titled “Craveable Croissant Creations.”
This resource includes a dozen easy sandwich ideas that can be adapted for various meal times throughout the day.
Additionally, more recipes featuring the new croissant bun can be accessed online, providing further inspiration for food service establishments looking to innovate their menus.
The launch of Pillsbury Croissant Buns reflects General Mills’ commitment to meeting the evolving needs of food service operators.
As the industry adapts to changing consumer preferences and labour shortages, products like these offer practical solutions that can enhance menu offerings while simplifying operations.
“Operators are increasingly seeking ways to deliver quality without overextending their resources,” Relf added.
The versatility of these croissant buns allows them to be paired with various fillings and toppings, making them suitable for breakfast sandwiches, gourmet lunch options, or even creative appetisers.
This adaptability is crucial in an environment where consumer tastes are becoming more sophisticated and diverse.
