USA—General Mills has teamed up with NFL stars Travis and Jason Kelce to introduce a new cereal called Kelce Mix.
This cereal combines three beloved cereals: Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Lucky Charms, and Reese’s Puffs.
Set to hit shelves nationwide in mid-September, this collaboration aims to tap into the growing popularity of cereal mash-ups, appealing to both children and adults alike.
Travis Kelce, a tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs, expressed his excitement about the partnership: “I’d eat a whole box of REESE’S PUFFS cereal in one sitting… our creation might just be the new MVP of the cereal aisle.”
This sentiment reflects the brothers’ nostalgic connection to these cereals, as they fondly recall mixing them during childhood.
Jason Kelce, who recently retired from the Philadelphia Eagles, echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the joy of combining their favourite cereals into one box.
The Kelce Mix will be available for a limited time at grocery stores and online. An 11.5-ounce box retails for approximately US$5.69.
The cereal is designed to cater to the hearty appetites of fans, especially during the football season. Mindy Murray, brand experience director for General Mills, stated, “There’s something extra special about working with recruits like Travis and Jason Kelce, who have loved our brands since their childhood. It’s a dream partnership for both sides.”
Nutritionally, the Kelce Mix contains whole-grain corn-based cereals enriched with vitamins and minerals. A single serving of the mix offers 150 calories, 11 grams of sugar, and 3 grams of protein.
While the mix is undoubtedly sweet, it aims to provide a fun breakfast rather than a health-focused alternative.
Nutritionists have raised concerns about the high sugar content in cereals like Kelce Mix, which can contribute to unhealthy dietary habits in children.
Dr Calley Means criticised the partnership, stating that athletes should avoid endorsing products that may not benefit kids.
In response, Jason Kelce defended their creation, asserting that enjoying these cereals in moderation can be part of a balanced diet.
Taste tests of the Kelce Mix have revealed a surprisingly harmonious blend of flavours. Reviewers noted that the peanut butter, cinnamon, and marshmallow flavours coexist well, creating a delightful breakfast experience.
As the football season approaches, the Kelce brothers’ cereal is poised to significantly impact the breakfast table.
With its playful mix of flavours and the star power of its creators, Kelce Mix is more than just a cereal; it’s a celebration of childhood memories and a nod to the joy of breakfast.
As Travis Kelce put it, “We’d go through two to three boxes of our favourite cereals a week when we were growing up, so being able to team up with General Mills now is a full circle moment for us.”
With the launch of Kelce Mix, General Mills is tapping into the nostalgia of cereal lovers and appealing to a new generation of fans eager to enjoy a unique breakfast experience.
