GLOBAL – General Mills, a leading global food manufacturer, has appointed Karen Jenkins as the new managing director for Australia and New Zealand.
This announcement marks a significant transition for the company as Jenkins steps into a role that is pivotal for its operations in the region.
Jenkins brings over 25 years of experience in the food industry, having a proven track record in driving business growth and innovation within General Mills on an international scale.
Her extensive background includes various roles that have equipped her with a comprehensive understanding of the market dynamics in both Australia and New Zealand.
“I am excited to take on the role of Managing Director for General Mills Australia and New Zealand. Our region has seen significant growth and innovation, and I am eager to continue building on this success,” Jenkins stated, highlighting her enthusiasm for her new position.
Beginning her career in Australia, Jenkins initially focused on marketing before expanding her expertise into category management and sales.
Her journey took her to New Zealand, where she served as managing director, further honing her leadership skills. Jenkins later moved to the U.K. as sales director, where she played a crucial role in steering the company through the challenges posed by Brexit and the COVID-19 pandemic. This diverse experience has positioned her well to lead General Mills in ANZ.
After returning to Australia three years ago, Jenkins took on the role of sales director for the region. During her tenure, she successfully defined Australia’s customer and channel portfolio roles, fostering strong internal and external engagement.
Her leadership capabilities were recognized earlier this year when she received the Business Impact Award during the Global International Women’s Day celebrations, an accolade that underscores her significant contributions to the Australian business.
Looking ahead, Jenkins is committed to maintaining the momentum General Mills has achieved. “We have an exceptional team, and together, we will focus on driving further growth to keep making food the world loves,” she remarked.
Jenkins emphasized the importance of sustainability, stating that the company aims to treat both people and the planet well.
Under her leadership, General Mills plans to enhance its portfolio, which includes popular products such as Old El Paso Mexican food and the new Latina Fresh + PROTEIN chilled pasta range, along with innovative snacks and classic offerings like Häagen-Dazs ice cream.
Jenkins succeeds Matt Salter, who has transitioned to the role of Vice President of Marketing for General Mills’ international business segment.
This leadership change is expected to bring fresh perspectives and strategies to the company’s operations in Australia and New Zealand.
General Mills, headquartered in Melbourne, operates factories in Sydney and Rooty Hill, making it one of the largest food manufacturers in the region.
The company’s commitment to innovation and growth is evident in its strategic appointments and product developments, as it seeks to strengthen its position in a competitive market.
