USA – The 17th annual International Feed Regulators Meeting (IFRM), organized by the International Feed Industry Federation (IFIF) in collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), brought together feed industry representatives and government officials from around the world to discuss pressing issues facing the feed sector.

IFIF advocates for the global feed industry, emphasizing its role in providing sustainable, safe, nutritious, and affordable food for a burgeoning global population.

During the meeting, Ruud Tijssens, Chairman of IFIF, and Daniela Battaglia from FAO extended a warm welcome to IFRM delegates, emphasizing their commitment to the enduring partnership between IFIF and FAO. 

They pledged to enhance their collaborative efforts in addressing challenges within the feed and food chains. 

Ms. Battaglia emphasized the importance of public-private collaboration in upholding the responsibilities of the livestock and feed sectors during the global shift towards sustainable agricultural systems.

Mr. Tijssens praised the importance of the meeting for both industry stakeholders and government regulators, emphasizing the significant achievements made through their collaboration over the years. 

He cited examples such as the development of unique public-private voluntary guidelines on feed ingredient assessment by ICCF and science-based initiatives aimed at reducing antibiotic usage through nutritional solutions, which facilitated the enactment of adequate legislation.

During the meeting, important topics such as circular feed and novel ingredients were thoroughly discussed, fostering dialogue among legislators, scientists, and industry partners. 

Mr. Tijssens emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts to ensure feed and food security and safety while sustainably meeting global food demands.

Daniela Battaglia echoed Mr. Tijssens’ sentiments, emphasizing FAO’s commitment to facilitating dialogue between the public and private sectors. 

She emphasized the need for collaboration in addressing current challenges to ensure the health and welfare of humans and animals, as well as the safety and security of feed and food. 

Ms. Battaglia underscored the valuable contributions of feed operators in promoting responsible and sustainable animal production and food sectors. She advocated for coordinated efforts towards common goals.

The 17th IFRM included a workshop on the safe utilization of circular feed sources, as well as presentations on feed regulatory updates from Ghana and the European Commission.
