USA- Grain Craft has announced its acquisition of Central Milling, Inc., one of the largest suppliers of organic flour in the United States.
This partnership, revealed on September 26, 2024, allows Central Milling’s leadership team to continue managing the business from its headquarters in Logan, Utah.
The acquisition aims to enhance both companies’ capabilities in the organic flour market.
Central Milling has a rich history, operating for over 150 years. The company has specialized in organic milling for over five decades and operates mills in Logan, Richmond, and Collinston, Utah.
These locations are strategically situated within 20 miles of each other, allowing for efficient production and distribution. “Since the creation of Grain Craft, we have diligently looked for businesses that align with our vision,” stated Pete Frederick, president and CEO of Grain Craft.
‘’He emphasized that this partnership is a “natural fit”, enabling both companies to thrive together.
Frederick highlighted Central Milling’s reputation as a “robust business” with a loyal customer base among artisan bakers.
The company offers diverse organic products, including artisan baking flours and speciality grains.
Its heritage brand, Red Rose, has been a staple since 1919. This focus on quality has fostered strong relationships within the local farming community. It sources wheat directly from growers to ensure sustainability and traceability.
Lynn Perry, president of Central Milling and son of George Perry, the company’s founder, expressed pride in his father’s legacy.
“His vision of chemical-free farming and quality artisan flours has been instrumental in building our business,” he remarked.
Perry believes joining forces with Grain Craft will allow Central Milling to expand its reach while maintaining its commitment to quality and sustainability.
“Grain Craft supports us in broadening our presence while still prioritizing the farmer’s quality focus and the baker’s artisan goals,” he added.
The acquisition will not affect Central Milling’s workforce; all employees will remain in their positions. Central Milling currently employs over 90 individuals who are integral to its operations.
The company boasts an aggregate milling capacity of 6,000 hundredweight (cwt) per day across its three locations.
Grain Craft operates 12 flour mills across the United States and is known for its commitment to quality and sustainability in flour production.
The partnership with Central Milling is expected to enhance Grain Craft’s offerings in the organic segment while providing customers with more options for high-quality flour products.
This transaction does not include KGBS, an affiliated bakery distribution business based in Petaluma, California. KGBS specialises in various bakery ingredients but will continue operating independently.
