INDIA – The world’s largest baked foods company Grupo Bimbo, has donated 35,000 loaves of bread (equivalent to five lakh slices) to the India Food Banking Network (IFBN).
The donation is part of the India chapter of its Bimbo Global Race initiative to eliminate world hunger, one of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The race was organized into two different legs: the Delhi NCR (Gurugram) leg hosted under the company’s Harvest Gold bread brand and the Kochi leg of the race, organized as the Modern Global Race, after the company’s Modern bread brand.
The event drew more than 20,000 overall registrations, in which Grupo Bimbo had pledged to donate 20 slices of bread for every registration received for the marathon in India
Raj Kanwar Singh, Managing Director, of Bimbo Bakeries India, said, “With the mission to nourish a Better World, the Bimbo Global Race is a purpose-driven initiative in which participants are not only running for their health but also contributing towards feeding the underprivileged people”.
Bimbo Global Race is one of the world’s largest races for a cause. In 2022, the race which was in its seventh year attracted 340,000 participants from 99 countries.
Participants run the race together either in-person or virtually, on the same day, with a goal going beyond a medal.
Since its launching in 2016, the race has accumulated more than 16 million slices of bread to feed the hungry.
Sara Lee Bread with Veggies debuts in USA
Meanwhile, Bimbo Bakeries USA is adding Sara Lee White Bread Made with Veggies to its sliced bread portfolio in line with its nourish for a better world mission
The new bread is fortified with vitamins A, D and E and features approximately one cup of vegetables per loaf, according to the company.
“We know that mealtime can be a battle with picky eaters and little ones that aren’t exactly in love with vegetables,” says Jinder Bhogal, senior brand manager at Sara Lee Bread.
“We baked up the idea for our new Sara Lee White Bread Made with Veggies with families in mind to offer a deliciously unique option that’s new to the bread aisle.”
