ITALY- Global ingredients manufacturer Kemin Industries recently appointed João Marcelo Gomes as President of Kemin Food Technologies – EMEA (Europe, Middle East, and Africa) as the unit considers regional expansion.

The 62-year-old company manufactures over 500 ingredients for different applications in food and feed, serving customers in over 120 countries globally.

The EMEA region has been a significant part of the company’s portfolio for almost two decades, offering customers a wide range of plant-based extracts, antioxidants, antimicrobials, and functional proteins to ensure shelf-life, flavor, color, food safety, and yield enhancement.

Gomes will operate from Italy, where Kemin Food Technologies – EMEA is headquartered.

The Brazil-born professional veterinary will Gomes will be pivoting from South America, where he has been serving as the President of Kemin Animal Nutrition and Health since he joined Kemin in 2019.

During his tenure as president, the business unit doubled its growth in net sales and achieved record growth in net income.

Moreover, Gomes impacted people management, with the Kemin Animal Nutrition and Health – South America team reaching some of its highest scores in employee engagement.

Before Kemin, Gomes held various executive positions throughout his career, focusing on sales; marketing; and business and people development in animal nutrition and health companies, including Bayer, Fort Dodge, Pfizer, Ceva, and Novus International.

I am very excited to take on this new role in Kemin’s food technologies business and am looking forward to expanding my knowledge across the industries Kemin serves,” said Gomes.

As an excellent business developer, Gomes said he was eager to join the team and execute the company’s growth strategy in the EMEA business unit.

“Kemin Food Technologies – EMEA has balanced consumers’ growing interest in more natural products and ingredients with the economic crisis that has challenged food manufacturers to meet budget expectations while providing clearer labels,” he added.

Gomes will replace Marsha Bro, who now serves as Worldwide Acquisition and Licensing Director for Kemin Industries and is based at the company’s global headquarters in Des Moines, Iowa, U.S.

Gomes’ appointment has been welcomed with optimism as his business development and general management experience will likely elevate Kemin’s EMEA food technologies segment.

Kemin continues to see great potential to expand our business in EMEA, and I’m thrilled to have João leading the charge to grow our presence in the region’s food and beverage industry,” said Giuseppe Abrate, Global Group President – Food and Human, Kemin Industries.
