USA – Kemin Industries has launched FORMYL, a pioneering feed additive designed to enhance the health and productivity of swine in the United States.
This innovative solution from Kemin Animal Nutrition and Health – North America leverages a proprietary blend of encapsulated calcium formate and citric acid to ensure optimal delivery and efficacy.
Calcium formate, recently approved in the U.S. for use as a feed acidifying agent in complete swine and poultry feeds, plays a pivotal role in the formulation of FORMYL.
Research indicates that calcium formate is an effective feed acidifier and antimicrobial agent, capable of combating pathogens by damaging their cell membranes.
This newly introduced feed additive acts as an effective feed acidifier to address pathogens and promote a healthy gut environment.
FORMYL’s encapsulation technology ensures safer handling and maximizes its impact within the animal. The non-antibiotic solution of formic acid in FORMYL contributes to minimizing the presence of Enterobacteriaceae challenges and Escherichia coli, providing a safer and healthier option for swine producers.
The benefits of FORMYL extend beyond pathogen control. Calcium formate is widely recognized for its ability to reduce the pH of the gastrointestinal tract, which can enhance the barrier against microbial passage to the intestinal tract.
This leads to improved activity of gastric enzymes post-weaning, better digestion, and a reduced incidence of diarrhea. FORMYL’s targeted release in the gastrointestinal tract ensures effective acidification, supporting overall intestinal health and improving performance and profitability in swine production.
