USA- Landus, a diversified farmer-owned cooperative headquartered in Iowa, announced through a signed letter of intent that it will take ownership of Snittjer Grain’s two facilities in Iowa from September 1, 2023.
With two locations in Wellsburg, Iowa, and Conrad, Iowa, Snittjer is a family-owned and -operated grain merchandising and elevator company with 11 employees.
According to Landus, it is a well-run company with deep roots in the communities they serve.
“Landus has worked closely with the Snittjer team over the past two years through our Optimization model and the ongoing collaboration, and we have developed a deep respect for their team and the communities they serve,” said Matt Carstens, president, and CEO of Landus.
This acquisition is a significant advancement of the strategic goals of the Iowa-based cooperative.
“Snittjer’s assets are in ideal locations for our sustainable growth plans at Landus as we continue to expand,” continued Carstens.
According to Landus, Snittjer employees will join the more than 600 Landus employees who serve 7,000 farmers across the Midwest with grain, agronomy, animal nutrition, and data programs.
“We welcome Snittjer employees to the Landus team and are eager to work alongside them to continue to put local farmers at the center of everything we do,” said a statement from Landus.
Landus operates through 60-plus locations in the U.S. and Mexico, offering seed products, crop nutrients, and crop protection solutions to farmers in the region.
This partnership will bolster their business, especially in grain elevation and the sale of offerings from their diversified portfolio.
J.R. Kennedy, general manager of Snittjer Grain Co., said they have worked with Landus in various capacities over the last few years and appreciate their partnership approach.
“On behalf of Pat Kennedy and me, as leaders, we’re proud to say this opportunity is possible because Snittjer is financially sound and because of our strong team who will blend well with Landus,” said J.R.
“We are excited to join the Landus family and continue to serve our customers at the level they’ve come to expect, now with the full scope of Landus’ wide breadth of products and services,” he added.
Landus joins the GROWERS Retail Network
Meanwhile, Landus recently announced joining the GROWERS Retail Network, connecting Landus to farmers on The GROWERS App, a digital platform for farmers to connect with retailers and research input products.
The app allows farmers and retailers to streamline that process by enabling farmers to submit their input requests in the platform, share the same with retailers, and receive, compare, select, and purchase inputs all in one place.
“Joining The GROWERS Retail Network is an exciting milestone for Landus and an important part of our growth strategy across the Midwest… it makes purchasing agronomy inputs more efficient,” said Matt Carstens,
“We keep the farmer at the center of everything we do, and this is one more way we are focused on helping them sustainably grow,” he added.
