ARGENTINA – Louis Dreyfus Co. (LDC), a global merchant and processor of agricultural goods, has unveiled a new regenerative agriculture program in Argentina, partnering with several key stakeholders in the agricultural sector to address the urgent need for adaptive practices in the face of climate change.

This initiative is designed to tackle climate-related challenges by reducing carbon emissions, conserving natural ecosystems, and boosting climate resilience among farming communities.

The program is set to cover 205,000 hectares and engage 400 farmers by 2030.

As the program lead, LDC will oversee the design, enrollment of agricultural producers, and the establishment of specific purchase agreements.

The company will also implement risk-sharing mechanisms and handle reporting on the program’s progress.

Juan José Blanchard, LDC’s global chief operating officer and head of Latin America, emphasized the company’s commitment to sustainable practices.

“To address the increasingly urgent need for agricultural systems to adapt to climate-related challenges affecting soils, yields and consequently profitability, LDC has a strategic role to play, due to its proximity to farmers, in driving the adoption of practices that can help produce agricultural goods more sustainably,” said Juan.

“Guided by our purpose to create fair and sustainable value for the benefit of current and future generations, we are proud to launch this program in Argentina alongside partners who share our vision,” he added.

The initiative involves several notable partners. The Nature Conservancy (TNC), an international NGO focused on conservation, will provide technical support for the program’s design and implementation.

TNC’s Andrés Sylvestre Begnis noted that the program represents a key opportunity to apply their extensive experience in sustainable agriculture.

Peterson, a consultancy specializing in sustainability projects, will assist in selecting suitable regenerative practices, setting baselines, and monitoring environmental impacts. Syngenta will facilitate knowledge exchange among producers, while Nestlé Argentina will help drive demand for the products produced through the program.

Banco Galicia will support the program’s financial aspect by offering preferential financing options to farmers adopting regenerative practices.
