SINGAPORE – US snacks and drinks giant Mondelez International has inaugurated its state-of-the-art Regional Biscuit and Baked Snacks Lab and Innovation Kitchen in Singapore.
The US$5 million facility is set to drive the development of new products tailored for consumers across Southeast Asia, Australia, New Zealand, and Japan.
This new hub is intended to serve as a “strategic regional hub” and will augment the company’s existing Singapore Technical Centre, which has been a cornerstone of Mondelez’s regional innovation since its founding in 2006 and subsequent expansion in 2018.
The opening ceremony was graced by prominent figures, including Chan Ih-Ming, Executive Vice President of the Singapore Economic Development Board; Casey Mace, Deputy Chief of Mission at the US Embassy in Singapore; Deepak Iyer, Executive Vice President and President for Asia Pacific, Middle East and Africa (AMEA) at Mondelez; and Marco Michielsen, Research and Development Lead for Southeast Asia and Vice President of Biscuits and Baked Snacks for AMEA at Mondelez.
Speaking at the event, Iyer emphasized the company’s commitment to innovation and regional growth:
“At Mondelez International, we are dedicated to pushing the boundaries of food innovation and product development,” Iyer said.
“Through collaborative efforts, we aim to create a dynamic space where creative ideas can flourish and contribute to the development of new innovative products for our consumers,” he added.
According to Mondelez, this expansion further enhances the capabilities of its Singapore Technical Centre and reaffirms their commitment and contribution to the country, which serves as the headquarters for our Asia Pacific, Middle East, and Africa business.
With a focus on co-innovation, this expansion is designed to help accelerate Mondelez’s mission to create “the right snack, for the right moment, made the right way.”
The establishment of the Biscuit and Baked Snacks Lab and Innovation Kitchen marks a significant step in Mondelez’s commitment to mindful snacking, including developing products that encourage portion balance and mindful indulgence whilst exploring flavor innovation and different product formats.
The Singapore Technical Centre currently houses expertise and technical capabilities in Product Development, Packaging, Process Technology Development, Consumer Science, Analytical Science, Ingredient Research, and Scientific and Regulatory Affairs.
Through this expansion, Mondelez aims to build on these skillsets, upskilling existing talent and evolving employee capabilities to drive deeper consumer-driven innovation and advance operational effectiveness.
Commenting on the inauguration of the Regional Biscuit and Baked Snacks Lab and Innovation Kitchen, Mr Chan said:
“The expansion will capitalize on opportunities presented by the rising Asian middle class and a growing appetite for premium and responsible snacking experiences.”
