BELARUS- Belarus has achieved a significant agricultural milestone, harvesting over 6.3 million tonnes of grain, including rapeseed, as of August 6, 2024.
This achievement was reported by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food, highlighting the country’s robust agricultural sector.
The total harvest includes 5.337 million tonnes of cereals and leguminous crops, along with 1.053 million tonnes of winter rapeseed.
The figures indicate a strong performance across various regions, with Minsk Oblast leading the way by contributing 1.723 million tonnes to the total harvest.
Brest Oblast followed closely, yielding 1.459 million tonnes, while Grodno Oblast produced 1.428 million tonnes.
Other regions also made notable contributions, including Mogilev Oblast at 670,400 tonnes, Gomel Oblast at 627,000 tonnes, and Vitebsk Oblast at 482,000 tonnes.
The harvesting process has been efficient, with significant portions of other crops also gathered. As of this date, 84% of spring barley, 81.9% of winter rye, 75.6% of wheat, 72.4% of oats, and 70.3% of triticale have been harvested.
Additionally, 55.3% of legumes have been collected, showcasing the comprehensive nature of this year’s agricultural efforts.
Flax, another important crop, has also seen substantial progress, with 38,100 hectares harvested, which accounts for 85% of the total area designated for this crop.
This successful harvest reflects the hard work and dedication of Belarusian farmers, who have faced various challenges throughout the growing season.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Food emphasized the importance of these harvests for the country’s economy, stating, “The agricultural sector is a cornerstone of our economy, and these harvest figures demonstrate our commitment to food security and sustainability.”
The government has implemented various measures to support farmers, including providing access to modern farming equipment and technologies, which have played a crucial role in enhancing productivity.
Weather conditions have also been favorable this season, contributing to the successful harvest. The combination of adequate rainfall and optimal temperatures has allowed crops to flourish, leading to higher yields.
Farmers have expressed satisfaction with the results, noting that the hard work put into the planting and nurturing of crops has paid off.
Looking ahead, the Ministry is optimistic about the remaining harvests and the potential for exceeding previous years’ totals.
“We are on track to achieve even greater results as we continue our harvesting efforts,” a ministry spokesperson remarked.
The focus will now shift to ensuring that the harvested grain is properly stored and distributed, maintaining quality and availability for both domestic consumption and export.
