USA- POET, the world’s largest biofuel producer, has entered into a strategic partnership with Summit Carbon Solutions, the world’s largest carbon capture and storage project.

The collaboration aims to harness the value of biogenic CO2 generated during bioethanol production, marking a significant milestone in sustainable energy practices.

As part of this groundbreaking venture, POET will integrate its 12 bioprocessing facilities in Iowa and five facilities in South Dakota into the Summit Carbon Solutions project.

This collective effort is projected to capture an impressive 4.7 million tonnes of CO2 annually from the 17 POET plants.

Jeff Broin, Founder and CEO of POET, expressed enthusiasm for the historic project, stating, “As the world seeks low-carbon energy solutions, carbon capture ensures that ag-based biofuels will remain competitive for decades to come. This is a tremendous opportunity to bring value to farmers, bioethanol producers, and rural communities and counties in participating states. I believe it will unleash even more opportunities for ag and bioprocessing in the future.”

The collaboration between POET and Summit Carbon Solutions aligns with global efforts to mitigate carbon emissions and promote sustainable energy solutions. The project addresses environmental concerns and fosters economic benefits for the agricultural sector.

Lee Blank, CEO of Summit Carbon Solutions, highlighted the economic opportunities the partnership will create in agriculture.

This initiative is aimed at enhancing the financial profitability of our farmers, contributing to higher land values, and ensuring a more prosperous future for farm families and communities,” Blank said. “Our focus is on tangible benefits that directly support the backbone of our nation’s agricultural industry.”

The joint effort signifies a commitment to advancing carbon capture technologies within the bioethanol production landscape.

By joining forces, POET and Summit Carbon Solutions are pioneering a model that not only reduces the carbon footprint but also presents tangible economic advantages for farmers and communities.

As the world grapples with the imperative of sustainable energy practices, this collaboration stands as a beacon of innovation and progress in the biofuel industry.
