USA – Scoular, a leading agricultural company based in Omaha, Nebraska, held a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Sept 17 to celebrate the completion of its new oilseed processing facility in Goodland.

The plant’s official opening is set for October, marking a significant investment in the region’s agricultural infrastructure.

The state-of-the-art facility, retrofitted to process an impressive 11 million bushels (approximately 300,000 tonnes) of oilseeds annually, has the capacity to handle 33,287 bushels (907 tonnes) per day.

It will primarily supply vegetable oil for the renewable fuels market while producing feed products for dairy, beef, and poultry producers.

Sandra Hulm, senior vice president of Renewables and Oilseeds at Scoular, emphasized the company’s commitment to the community and its customers. “We plan to be in Goodland for decades to come,”

Scoular has put a major investment in a business we believe in. We thrive on delivering best-in-class quality service and helping our customers and producers succeed. This investment is a perfect example,” she stated.

Since receiving its first truckloads of winter canola in June, Scoular’s Canola MVP producer program has already increased winter canola production by 30,000 acres within a year. The program aims for continued growth, supporting multiple crushing assets in the years ahead.

The facility, previously a sunflower crush plant purchased by Scoular in 2021, has now been converted into a dual oilseed crush plant.

Ed Prosser, senior vice president of Emerging Businesses at Scoular, highlighted the facility’s potential to boost canola production in Kansas and Oklahoma.

“This investment will provide producers with the opportunity to participate in the booming renewable fuels market,” he noted.

In a collaborative effort to maximize the benefits of canola cultivation, Scoular has partnered with Kansas State University to provide farmers with best practices for growing canola.

This crop is well-suited for planting in a winter wheat rotation, which can enhance weed control and improve wheat yields, aligning with the sustainable farming practices increasingly adopted by local producers.

With plans to employ over 30 workers at the new plant, Scoular continues to strengthen its presence in Goodland, where it operates three additional grain elevators. The new facility not only represents a major advancement in oilseed processing but also signals a commitment to fostering agricultural innovation and economic growth in the region.
