SPAIN – Simeza Silos is embarking on an ambitious expansion project to construct one of Europe’s largest hopper bottom silos (HBS-S) at a Valls Companys group plant, a prominent Spanish agri-food company.
The storage capacity of the facility is a response to the increasingly globalized market. This new infrastructure will significantly enhance Vall Companys’ storage capacity for raw materials, offering enhanced stability to the agri-food and livestock value chain.
The state-of-the-art facility will comprise four ‘HBS-S model’ hopper bottom silos, each with a unitary capacity of 3000 tonnes, totaling an impressive 12,000 tonnes of storage capacity for cereals.
The silos will boast a diameter of 13.75 meters and a height of 36 meters, featuring various accessories such as vertical ladders, inspection doors, roof vents, sponsors, handrails, and other essential elements.
Special catwalks, metallic supports, and an advanced ventilation system will be installed to ensure optimum storage conditions suitable for the large volume of grain stored.
One of the significant advantages of utilizing an elevated hopper bottom silo, as opposed to a flat-bottom silo, is the ease of unloading the stored product, leading to cost savings associated with civil works.
The project timeline has been carefully planned, encompassing stages such as investment study, supplier offer adjudication, engineering project and approval, construction licenses acquisition, and civil works layout, among others. The entire process is expected to span approximately 10 months.
Simeza Silos’ technical team has risen to the challenge presented by pioneering storage silos in Europe, showcasing their professionalism and attention to detail.
The company has set international standards by employing high-quality galvanized structural steel for the silos’ construction, ensuring long-term durability.
In line with sustainability and energy efficiency goals, the facility’s design and construction have taken into account gravity discharge under the silos to streamline operations and reduce the need for additional machinery.
Furthermore, the machinery’s design and components have been meticulously developed to meet energy efficiency standards.
This ambitious construction project marks a significant milestone for SIMEZA, setting new benchmarks for silo manufacturers worldwide. The successful completion of this project will empower Vall Companys with a cutting-edge silo plant, ensuring autonomy and efficiency in raw material storage at their factory.
