NORWAY– Skretting, a global leader in aquaculture feeds, has unveiled a strategic partnership with Zooca Calanus, a leading innovator in sustainable marine ingredients.
This collaboration is geared towards developing innovative and sustainable nutritional solutions, with a specific focus on Skretting’s LifeStart segment, marking a significant milestone in advancing aquaculture practices.
Skretting and Zooca Calanus, building on over a decade of collaboration, will pool their expertise to create high-quality, nutritionally optimized feeds. The key ingredient in these feeds will be Calanus finmarchicus, a minute marine copepod rich in essential nutrients.
Additionally, whole fresh canned copepods will be incorporated into the nutritional solutions. These advancements aim to elevate the health and growth of farmed aquatic species while championing sustainability within the aquaculture sector.
“This collaboration represents a significant step forward in our mission to provide innovative and sustainable solutions to the aquaculture industry. By combining Skretting’s expertise in aquafeed formulation with Zooca Calanus’ unique marine ingredients, we aim to set new standards for nutrition, health, and sustainability in aquaculture,” Hassan Skøien, Shrimp Innovation Director at Skretting, expressed excitement about the partnership.
Eamonn O’Brien, Global Product Manager of LifeStart at Skretting, emphasized the potential of Calanus as an abundant resource, contributing to the diversification of marine ingredients and providing employment opportunities for local fishing communities during their low season.
The collaboration also addresses the broader goal of preserving oceans and marine ecosystems.
“We are proud to partner with Skretting, a company known for its commitment to quality and sustainability. Together, we will harness the ‘nature baby food’ power of Calanus finmarchicus to create feeds that not only enhance aquatic health but also contribute to the preservation of our oceans and marine ecosystems,” Hogne Abrahamsen, CSO of Zooca Calanus group stated.
This partnership aligns with both companies’ dedication to driving positive change in the aquaculture industry, emphasizing sustainability, nutrition, and health.
Skretting and Zooca Calanus anticipate introducing these innovative products to the market, envisioning a lasting impact on the global aquaculture landscape.
As they work towards establishing new standards, the collaboration sets the stage for a more sustainable and environmentally conscious future in aquaculture.
