KENYA – Tunga Nutrition (K)-LTD-Skretting EA, a leading Fish feeds Manufacturer in East Africa, has attained ISO 2200:2018 (FSMS) certification.
The certification was awarded by SGS, a global leader in testing, inspection, and certification services.
The ISO 22000 set of standards are global voluntary consensus norms that adhere to the World Trade Organization’s (WTO’s) Principles for the Development of International Standards and Good Standardization Practices (GSP).
It outlines the specifications for developing a Food Safety Management System (FSMS) that drives continuous improvement of all processes with an impact on the safety of end-products. No matter how big or where it is in the food chain, any business can use it.
Founded in 2022, the East African aqua feeds giant is a partnership that involves open-ended, Skretting-managed joint ventures with two indirect subsidies of Unga Group. It produces and distributes fish feeds under the Skretting and Fugo Brands.
Last year, Tunga launched a state-of-the-art fish feed extruder in its production facility in Nairobi committing to serving the aqua market diligently and efficiently.
During the partnership, East Africa’s animal nutrition giant Unga Farm Care (EA) Limited and the Global Animal Nutrition powerhouse Nutreco International BV entered a joint venture giving birth to Tunga Nutrition-the Aqua Nutrition Solution provider.
According to Tunga, since the adoption of commercial aquaculture in East Africa, quality fish feeds have been one of the major challenges to farmers and investors.
The company was also awarded the Best Fish Farmer Competition Winners of the year 2023 from the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Larrive International, and the Lattice Aqua initiative.
