USA—The U.S. Grains Council (USGC) elected Verity Ulibarri, former chairwoman of the United Sorghum Checkoff Program, as its new chairwoman during the Council’s 64th Annual Board of Delegates Meeting, held this week in Salt Lake City.

We are thrilled to see Verity elected as chairwoman of the U.S. Grains Council,” said Tim Lust, CEO of the Sorghum Checkoff. “

“Her leadership and dedication to the sorghum industry are exceptional. We are confident she will drive innovation and growth in international markets for sorghum and the other commodities the Council represents,” Tim added.

Ulibarri, who has been pivotal in advancing the sorghum industry both domestically and internationally, brings a wealth of experience to her new role. Her tenure as chairwoman of the Sorghum Checkoff has been marked by significant contributions to promoting sorghum’s value and benefits.

“I am honored to be elected chairwoman of the U.S. Grains Council. “My experience with the Sorghum Checkoff has prepared me well for this position. I look forward to furthering the Council’s mission to develop markets, enable trade, and improve lives,” Ulibarri said.

Ulibarri is the second representative from the sorghum sector to serve as chair of the Council board in recent history. She follows Dale Artho, a founding member of the Sorghum Checkoff board and former Council board chairman who served in the early 2000s.

“Dale’s contributions continue to inspire and support the leadership of individuals like Verity,” “We are proud to see her step into this critical role,” said Norma Ritz Johnson, Executive Director of the Sorghum Checkoff.

In addition to Ulibarri, the Sorghum Checkoff is well-represented on the USGC board.

Kim Baldwin, Sorghum Checkoff Treasurer and a sorghum farmer from Inman, Kansas, was appointed as the Innovation & Sustainability Advisory Team (A-Team) lead. Adam Schindler, a sorghum producer from Reliance, South Dakota, and the immediate past chairman of the Sorghum Checkoff board, was selected as the Sorghum Sector Chair on the Council’s board of directors.

The Sorghum Checkoff remains a strategic partner of the USGC, working to promote the reliable quality of U.S. sorghum globally.

The US Grains Council (USGC) recently announced plans to tap into the growing demand for coarse grains in India. The USGC recently conducted an exploratory trade mission across six cities, promoting opportunities for US sorghum in various sectors.

Partnering with the United Sorghum Checkoff Program (USCP) and the National Sorghum Producers, the mission addressed potential applications of sorghum in human consumption, industrial starch extraction, feed grain, and ethanol production.
