UK – Snack giant Walkers has confirmed the discontinuation of its popular black pepper and sea salt Snack a Jacks, a decision that has left many parents and children disappointed.

The announcement came on August 13, 2024, after customers noticed the absence of the low-calorie treat from supermarket shelves.

The black pepper and sea salt flavor, which was introduced in summer of 2022 alongside other varieties like sizzlin’ barbecue and sour cream and chive, quickly gained a loyal following.

Fans of the snack took to social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, to express their dismay. One parent lamented, “Oh no! My toddler loves them,” while another shared their fondness for the snack, stating, “I love Snack a Jacks salt and pepper rice cakes, the supreme rice cake – it’s so good.” A third fan added, “Black pepper and sea salt Snack a Jacks dipped in chicken soup is THE ONE,” highlighting the snack’s versatility and appeal.

Despite its popularity, Walkers decided to remove this flavor from its lineup, citing the need to focus on products that resonate more strongly with consumers.

A spokesperson for Walkers explained, “Continuously evolving our portfolio enables us to focus our efforts on making more of the flavors crisp fans love the most.”

This decision aligns with the company’s broader strategy of regularly introducing new flavors while discontinuing those that do not meet sales expectations.

While the black pepper and sea salt Snack a Jacks are no longer available for purchase online, some local stores may still have remaining stock.

Customers are encouraged to check with their nearby shops for any leftover supplies. However, the sentiment among fans remains one of loss, as many had come to rely on the snack as a healthy option.

One satisfied customer remarked, “Makes a good low-calorie snack with low-fat cream cheese,” while another noted, “Great taste not overpowering and lovely for lunch with some mayonnaise and sliced tomato.”

Walkers has a history of discontinuing products that fail to perform in the market. Earlier in July, the company announced that its mild cheese Wotsits would no longer be sold in the UK, despite being well-liked by parents.

This trend of cutting less popular items has led to the removal of other products, including the Sensations Streetmix range, which was discontinued due to lackluster sales.

The decision to eliminate the black pepper and sea salt flavor has sparked discussions among fans about the future of other beloved snacks.

Many have taken to social media to reminisce about flavors they wish would return, including the Mexican Fiery Sweet Chipotle, which has garnered a cult following despite being off the market for years.

One fan passionately stated, “Walkers, bring back them Mexican Fiery Sweet Chipotle please, I’ll remortgage my house,” illustrating the strong emotional connection consumers have with these snacks.

As Walkers continues to refine its product offerings, the discontinuation of the black pepper and sea salt Snack a Jacks serves as a reminder of the ever-changing landscape of snack foods.

While some flavors may fade into memory, the impact they leave on loyal fans is undeniable, showcasing the deep bond between consumers and their favorite treats.
